What Is A Continuous Cough?

As we all know, one of the main symptoms of Covid-19 is a persistent coughBut what is a persistent cough? And how is a persistent cough different to the barks and tickles caused by less dangerous winter illnesses?

What Is A Continuous Cough?

A new and continuous cough is one of main symptoms of Covid-19. However, other symptoms include; a high temperature, and a loss or change of taste and smell. The NHS website defines a persistent cough as “coughing a lot for more than an hour, or three or more coughing episodes in 24 hours”. If you do have any of the symptoms listed, you must self isolate and ensure that you get a coronavirus test.

The difficulty distinguishing between Covid- and non-Covid-related coughs is one reason why it is so important that major improvements are made to the test-and-trace system.
